Statement of intent
How do you
intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate
meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1 (Entertainment magazine)
My research into entertainment magazines shows a range of the typical conventions common to the genre including; the type of shot and Mise en Scene. The shot types vary depending on who features in the magazine but the Mise en Scene typically focuses on the outfit/ Costume the model is wearing but they also heavily feature and address cultural issues. In my magazines I will focus on the appearance and clothing of the models but also tie in aspects of diversity to fulfil the part of the brief that says to have ‘At least two models representing at least two different social groups’. However, another main focus of mine will be to appeal to a 'fun loving 16–25 year old mass market demographic'. I asked a focus group of 15 16-25 year olds about the things they would like to see in an entertainment magazine and most said they wanted to see a range of stories featuring things from different parts of the entertainment industry (music, film, TV and Fashion) they also said they preferred close up/ mid-close shots rather than long shots or action shots. The focus group also said they would like to see a model from a not very represented background/race/ ethnic origin. This should appeal to Hearst Magazines as typically their magazines are to do with men's /women's health, good housekeeping or fashion magazines and do not have any entertainment magazines. So this magazine will be different and stand out from the rest.
Product 2 (Accompanying Website)
My website will be of a very similar style to the magazine with the same distinctive bold title at the top. The website will include several linked pages to articles relevant to the target demographic, for example, the top shows on Netflix, what songs are in the charts and most importantly, an interview piece with the cover models. The audio visual piece will be a behind the scenes clip of the photo shoot of the models to make the audience feel involved with the celebrities and make it feel more personal.
At the bottom of the website there will be a subscription and comments box which intends to again make the audience feel more involved. On the contents page there will feature the website address along with a reason for the audience to actually visit the website, for example; 'visit our website to see exclusive behind the scenes pictures of...'
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
I aim to have a clear connection between the website and the two front covers by having the same fonts feature on both, as well as similar colour schemes to fit the house-style. On the contents page there will feature the website address along with a reason for the audience to actually visit the website, for example; 'visit our website to see exclusive behind the scenes pictures of...’ The Hearst company logo will feature on both front covers along with the barcode date and price. Both the magazines and website will have the bold 'INSIGHT' title across the top distinctively linking the two.

Audience production
The target audience are fun loving 16-25 year olds. I found out from a focus group that they want to see;
- close up pictures of models
- lots of information about whats going to be inside the magazine
- colorful text
- Make text bigger
- Make images larger and more contrasted to show light/ dark
- include a barcode on the top rather than the bottom
- The use of color in the text
- The use of natural and man-made lights
- the contents of the text
- Use several small images and not one large image
- Make text larger
- line text up
- The images used
- color scheme

Planning production
Initial ideas for front covers, (based on paper magazine)
Mock ups:
I then decided to change the layout of the magazine after adding the original images, and decided to make them look more like Billboard magazine. but still using some features from Paper magazine (Big bold title etc)
Draft 1
Draft 2

Planning website
first website draft
After this, I decided to change the layout completely to look more like entertainment magazine's website,
Below I have included some comparison screenshots of my website and Entertainment weekly's website. It has similar features such as;
- the bold title of the magazine in the top left corner with the name of the different sections just below.
- A large dominating image/video on the top centre of the page
- on the left and right hand sides, smaller images accompanying text of featured stories.
- A list of stories featured on the website
- I made use of the three images in a row accompanied by text below it focusing on one story/person at a time (image 3)

camera research
Brief:
Create mock ups for the front cover and contents pages of two issues of the same fashion magazine aimed at a sophisticated target audience of ages 16-25.
The ethnicity and gender of your target audience is open to your own choice. However, you need to be cognizant about the availability of potential models should you choose to go from 'found image' mock up to original production.
Tasks:
i) Find an existing magazine that fulfills the brief and carefully consider the generic features and house style.
ii) Find images that will allow you to construct the cover and contents pages using either Adobe Photoshop 3 or Adobe Illustrator, or a combination of the two.
iii) Carefully consider the representation you wish to convey.
iv) Combine anchoring text and image in a dynamic way to fulfill the brief.

Practice tasks
Brief
In groups of 2 - 4, plan and produce two minutes of a music video in the genre of your choice.
Decide which social groups you intend to include in your music video (this will be subject to availability).
Consider the stereotypes surrounding those social groups and the relationships between them.
Decide whether you wish to present a hegemonic representation (reinforcing the stereotypes) of the social groups or a pluralistic one (presenting countertypical representations).
Present this as a mission statement on your blog.
Task 2:
Choose a genre of music that will allow you to fulfill your brief and then decide on five or more music videos that you feel are typical of the genre.
Post links to those five videos (or more) on your blog.
Based on those five (or more) videos, compile a list of generic conventions that you wish to include in your own production.
Task 3:
Write a shooting script/storyboard for your video.
Make annotations in your script/storyboard that link to your ideas about representation.
Task 4:
Shoot the video
Task 5:
Edit the video
Finally:
Post the video to your blog. You will need to work out how to host it. Consider the difficulty of copyright.

- The target audience must be a sophisticated audience between the ages of 16 and 25.
- The music video must feature representations that cover at least two different social groups.
- Your research must identify at least 5 generic conventions
- Your music video must use all 5 (or more) of those conventions

Still To Complete
Storyboard: 1 - You really need to scan in your storyboard. I believe there are apps available that make your camera into a decent scanner, but all of the printers in school can also be used to scan. This will really help with presentation. 2 - Return to your research (ideally create a new post to present the research). Will 19 shots be enough to fulfill the task? That is a genuine question. 3 - You almost certainly need to create some sort of shooting script to allow you to clarify what is needed for your production. Remember that the objective should be that you can hand over the script to someone else and they can make the video for you. I don't think that I would be able to do that with your current script. on Research and production task
