How do you
intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate
meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1 (Entertainment magazine)
My research into entertainment magazines shows a range of the typical conventions common to the genre including; the type of shot and Mise en Scene. The shot types vary depending on who features in the magazine but the Mise en Scene typically focuses on the outfit/ Costume the model is wearing but they also heavily feature and address cultural issues. In my magazines I will focus on the appearance and clothing of the models but also tie in aspects of diversity to fulfil the part of the brief that says to have ‘At least two models representing at least two different social groups’. However, another main focus of mine will be to appeal to a 'fun loving 16–25 year old mass market demographic'. I asked a focus group of 15 16-25 year olds about the things they would like to see in an entertainment magazine and most said they wanted to see a range of stories featuring things from different parts of the entertainment industry (music, film, TV and Fashion) they also said they preferred close up/ mid-close shots rather than long shots or action shots. The focus group also said they would like to see a model from a not very represented background/race/ ethnic origin. This should appeal to Hearst Magazines as typically their magazines are to do with men's /women's health, good housekeeping or fashion magazines and do not have any entertainment magazines. So this magazine will be different and stand out from the rest.
Product 2 (Accompanying Website)
My website will be of a very similar style to the magazine with the same distinctive bold title at the top. The website will include several linked pages to articles relevant to the target demographic, for example, the top shows on Netflix, what songs are in the charts and most importantly, an interview piece with the cover models. The audio visual piece will be a behind the scenes clip of the photo shoot of the models to make the audience feel involved with the celebrities and make it feel more personal.
At the bottom of the website there will be a subscription and comments box which intends to again make the audience feel more involved. On the contents page there will feature the website address along with a reason for the audience to actually visit the website, for example; 'visit our website to see exclusive behind the scenes pictures of...'
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
I aim to have a clear connection between the website and the two front covers by having the same fonts feature on both, as well as similar colour schemes to fit the house-style. On the contents page there will feature the website address along with a reason for the audience to actually visit the website, for example; 'visit our website to see exclusive behind the scenes pictures of...’ The Hearst company logo will feature on both front covers along with the barcode date and price. Both the magazines and website will have the bold 'INSIGHT' title across the top distinctively linking the two.
